How much does a GEO agency cost in Germany in 2026? In our 11-provider sample of externally published prices, ongoing GEO, LLMO and SEO/GEO starts range from €249 to €5,000 per month; the median advertised entry fee is €1,980 per month. This revised comparison also includes Optis Digital at a newly disclosed starting fee of €1,000/month, bringing the descriptive list to 12 providers. The median of these 12 entries is €1,490/month. Neither median is a representative market average.
The two medians answer slightly different questions. The €1,980 figure is based solely on 11 providers with independently accessible price pages; the €1,490 figure includes the publisher’s own newly declared starting price. This distinction matters more than a neat headline number. A low-cost monitoring or two-page package is not comparable with a multilingual B2B programme involving technical implementation, specialist content and digital PR.
Research reviewed 22 October 2026. The comparison is neither a quality ranking nor a claim that any provider can buy a ChatGPT recommendation. See the sampling method and 12-provider comparison. For a complementary deliverables-first breakdown, see our separate GEO and LLMO service prices and deliverables guide (PDF). The PDF explains what a package buys rather than duplicating this agency comparison.
GEO pricing in Germany: the numbers at a glance
11 external, publicly advertised starting rates: €249–€5,000/month, median €1,980/month in the non-random external-price sample.
12 comparable entries including Optis Digital: median €1,490/month when the publisher’s new €1,000/month starting fee is included.
Entry scope differs: a few page edits or monitoring cannot be equated with strategy, implementation and digital PR.
One-off basic checks: published examples of €149–€490; larger audits and strategies commonly move into four-figure budgets.
Extra costs: setup, VAT, content, development, translation, tools and media budgets may be excluded.
How much should you budget for a GEO agency?
For planning purposes, these bands are more helpful than one supposed “industry average.” They are Optis Digital’s interpretation of public offers, not official market tariffs. Your actual bill will depend on scope and on whether your own team performs the work.

One practical observation: a cheap retainer is not necessarily bad value. It can be exactly right for a local business with three important service pages. The mistake is buying that same scope for a company with 40 product categories, two languages and a sales team expecting measurable pipeline.
12 GEO agency starting prices in Germany: independently published and publisher-declared
We list advertised monthly starting rates, not like-for-like service contracts. Eleven prices were already public on third-party provider pages; the Optis Digital fee is newly provided by the publisher and should not be represented as independently verified historic public pricing. All external provider pages were reviewed on 22 October 2026. Tax treatment, included outputs and minimum terms vary.

Tax note: most explicitly quoted fees are net amounts, plus German VAT where applicable. Deine SEO Agentur and Koenitzer Web Design state final prices under the German small-business VAT regime (§19 UStG). Do not treat €249 final and €249 net as the same tax treatment. Figures shown as “from” are minimum advertised fees, not guaranteed quotes.
Median methodology: the original 11 external advertised entries are €249, €349, €650, €890, €1,000, €1,980, €1,990, €2,000, €2,500, approximately €3,000 and €5,000; the middle (sixth) value is €1,980. Adding the Optis Digital self-reported €1,000 entry produces 12 values; the sixth and seventh are €1,000 and €1,980, so the median is (€1,000 + €1,980) ÷ 2 = €1,490. The publisher participates in that larger sample, which is why both figures are shown. Neither is a representative German market median. OSG’s standard €650 is used instead of its temporary €499 promotional rate.
Why no Drela in the final dataset? The initial research brief identified a GEO page and a €2,500 entry figure, but the referenced GEO page could not be independently opened during our publication check. Rather than repeat an unverified price, we used Gerlach Media’s accessible, provider-owned €2,500 offer. That is a verification decision, not a statement about Drela’s services.
GEO audit costs, strategy fees and page-by-page projects
The monthly fee is only one model. Sometimes the smarter purchase is a one-off diagnosis that your existing SEO team can implement. Public prices also show why the word audit is not enough: a ten-question screenshot check is a different product from a source analysis, technical review and six-month roadmap.

Per-page delivery
ClickScale €699 net per page after its €2,000 concept

A €490 check can be a reasonable screening expense. I would not, however, approve a multi-quarter GEO programme on the strength of a single PDF score. Ask for the exact prompts, date, platform conditions and source URLs behind the headline finding.
Our 2026 research methodology and limitations
Research dates: 21–22 October 2026. Eleven third-party providers were selected because their own accessible pages stated a monthly entry price for GEO, LLMO, ChatGPT SEO or combined SEO/GEO. One published starting fee per provider was recorded; software-only plans and quote-only projects were excluded from the external sample. A twelfth entry, Optis Digital, is an owner-reported price newly published in this article, rather than a previously indexed price-list observation. This conflict is disclosed because Optis Digital also publishes this study.
Both series are descriptive and non-random, not a German market estimate. The eleven-party external-only median is €1,980; the twelve-party median including Optis is €1,490. Temporary promotions are excluded from the normalised entry prices; terms and VAT are not normalised into a misleading “equal package.” At least two offers use final-price treatment under §19 UStG. Public prices can change without notice, and we have not independently audited agency delivery or obtained negotiated quotes.
For reproducibility, each table row links to its source (the Optis row links to its service page and is labelled provider-declared). The separate GEO/LLMO service price and deliverables PDF is a different research asset: it groups types of work, illustrative costs, scope boundaries and procurement questions. It deliberately does not reproduce this full provider ranking or its median calculation.

Citation visibility and AI recommendations require different GEO work
“Make our company appear in ChatGPT” is not a useful scope of work. A citation-oriented project might improve a technical reference page, create original research and verify that its source URL is accessible. A recommendation-oriented project may require commercial service-page clarity, category comparisons, third-party coverage and repeated tests of unbranded buyer prompts. Both use much of the same SEO foundation; their deliverables, prompt sets and measurement differ.

Crawl/index checks; original explainers or data; topical links; source validation
Verified source citations per tested answer and cited URL
Brand or product mentioned accurately
Entity and business facts; clear product positioning; support from relevant third-party sources

Unbranded recommendation share for eligible buying scenarios
Commercial value
Attribution, GA4/CRM checks, sales-team feedback
Identifiable referrals, qualified leads and pipeline — separately from citations
Price implication: an advertised €1,000 starting engagement, including Optis Digital’s, is the start of a scoped project, not a fixed price per AI mention, citation or recommendation. The client and agency must agree which pages, assets, platforms, markets and deliverables fit that fee. No outside provider controls the answers of ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity.
Why two GEO proposals can differ by €3,000 a month
1. Buyer journeys, products and languages
Optimising one local service is not the same as serving six buyer personas across industrial software, compliance and integrations. Every additional decision journey creates fresh questions, competitors and source research. German and English need distinct customer language and market evidence, not a translated prompt spreadsheet.
2. The state of the website
If useful pages are blocked, canonicalised incorrectly, thinly linked or rendered in ways crawlers cannot access reliably, the project starts with technical SEO. An agency that diagnoses those issues but leaves implementation to a busy developer team is selling advisory work, not a completed fix. Both are legitimate—provided the contract says which.
3. Monitoring design and platform coverage
Twenty prompts run once are not a trend. A credible baseline records the prompt, language, geography, date, platform, model or mode where available, whether search was used, cited URLs and brand appearances. Repeat important commercial questions with controlled paraphrases. ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Google Search AI features are not one interchangeable channel.
This matters more than it sounds. In our 120-evaluation B2B GEO benchmark, we tested 24 scenarios across five platforms. No agency appeared in all five recommendation sets; pairwise overlap ranged from 2.7% to 13.5% in that test. It is one dated benchmark, not a universal performance rate. But it explains why I am sceptical of a single “AI visibility score” that hides its platform mix.
4. Content, implementation and external evidence
A report might recommend three comparison pages, eight product-page rewrites and a customer-facing methodology note. Someone still has to interview subject-matter experts, check facts, write, publish and maintain those assets. Original data and credible third-party editorial references take longer than turning 30 existing pages into similarly formatted FAQs. Digital PR and publisher fees can be a separate line item.
5. Who is accountable for the outcome?
Ask who owns the WordPress edits, QA, analytics configuration, outreach and reports. Senior review also changes the price. A useful retainer buys decisions and execution—not just access to a dashboard.
What should be included in a monthly GEO retainer?
For an established B2B site, I would expect the proposal to make the following work inspectable. Not every agency must include everything at every price; the point is to know which items you are—and are not—buying.
Baseline: a defined, exportable prompt set, competing brands and repeat-test schedule, with branded and unbranded questions separated.
Technical foundation: indexing, canonical tags, internal links, rendering, robots directives, crawl access, structured data that matches page content and validation after changes.
Commercial pages: improvements to product, service, comparison and solution pages that help buyers make decisions, not just definition articles.
Original evidence: interviews, examples, product specifications, methods, benchmarks or other assets that a generic content farm cannot reproduce.
Entity clarity: consistent company, product and expert information across owned profiles and relevant external sources.
Earned authority: transparent research-led outreach and editorial references; any publication fee disclosed before approval.
Measurement: separate reporting of AI impressions or visibility, cited pages, brand mentions, recommendations, identifiable referrals and leads.
Implementation ownership: named owner, quantity or capacity of deliverables, change log and next-month priorities.
One thing I would not pay a premium for by itself is an llms.txt file. I started testing and updating these files on client websites in July 2025 and later on more projects. I have not observed a citation or recommendation lift that I could confidently attribute to the file. This is field experience, not a controlled experiment; the fuller account is in our multi-site llms.txt assessment. Fix crawlability and publish stronger evidence before you allocate a significant budget to optional machine-readable extras.
First-year GEO cost: calculate the full commitment
First-year GEO cost = one-time audit/setup + (monthly retainer × paid months) + extra content/development + digital PR/media + separately billed tools + internal staff time. The minimum contract may be three, six or twelve months. A monthly label alone tells you little about the commitment.
For example, a €1,980/month retainer with a €1,490 setup and a 12-month term comes to €25,250 before VAT and extras (€1,490 + 12 × €1,980). That uses Wescript’s published fee structure as an arithmetic example, not a quote from Optis Digital. Contract terms and the scope behind the fee still matter.

These are deliberately explicit assumptions, not a forecast of what every company should spend. Figures exclude taxes, travel and any unlisted costs. For a real investment decision, compare the total with contribution margin from additional qualified deals—not vanity impressions. If the programme costs €33,480 and an incremental deal contributes €12,000 before marketing costs, it needs roughly three such additional deals to cover that spend. That calculation is a hurdle, not an attribution claim or a promise of new deals.
Should GEO have its own budget, separate from SEO?
Usually not a completely separate technical foundation. Google’s official documentation says AI Overviews and AI Mode do not require special technical optimisations beyond established Search fundamentals. Its generative-search guidance also stresses distinctive, useful information. This is not evidence that every GEO tactic works; it is a reason to reject the idea of a secret “ChatGPT ranking switch.”
It makes sense to budget together for SEO health, relevant content, internal linking and technical implementation. Then isolate GEO-specific research and measurement: buyer prompts, platform-by-platform mentions and citations, source analysis and external authority work. For the broader methodology, see our practical LLMO strategy guide and GEO and AI search optimisation services.
How to tell whether your GEO spend is working
There are at least six numbers worth keeping apart: AI visibility, citations, brand mentions, recommendations, referral sessions and leads. They form a chain of evidence, not synonyms. A brand can be mentioned without a link, cited without being recommended, or recommended without sending a trackable visit.
Use repeatable prompt observations to assess recommendations and mentions. Google Search Console’s dedicated generative AI view provides a different type of evidence: link impressions for supported Google AI experiences. See our explanation of Google’s generative AI report. For Microsoft experiences, Bing Webmaster Tools’ AI Performance reports citations and cited pages—not leads. GA4, meanwhile, can count identifiable AI-referred visits and conversions, but not every appearance in an answer; our AI referral tracking tutorial explains that boundary.
Before you compare month two with month one, save the test conditions. Models, access to web search, the location of the test and prompt wording can change the output. Do not let a vendor claim “visibility increased 80%” without showing 80% of what, across which platforms and how many observations.
12 questions to ask before accepting a GEO proposal
Which business questions and buyer stages will you prioritise—and why?
What is the initial prompt baseline, sample size and retest frequency?
Which platforms, countries, languages and search modes are included?
Will branded prompts be reported separately from unbranded recommendations?
Who implements WordPress, technical SEO and content changes?
How many finished, published pages or research assets are included each month?
Do you report cited URLs, mentions, recommendations, referral sessions and leads separately?
Can we export raw observations, prompt lists, content and reports if the contract ends?
What is included in digital PR, and what publication/media fees require approval?
How are edits reviewed for product accuracy, compliance and market language?
What are the setup costs, minimum term, cancellation notice and tool fees?
What outcomes are measurable goals, what are hypotheses and what cannot be guaranteed?
Keep the answers in the statement of work, not in a sales deck that never becomes contractual. Two equally priced proposals can look dramatically different once you compare a monthly list of actual changes.
GEO pricing red flags
Be cautious when the entire offer rests on a supposedly proprietary AI score, a promise of “number one in ChatGPT,” or a guaranteed number of citations. Other warning signs: no prompt denominator, no exportable evidence, ordinary organic traffic labelled “AI leads,” a monitoring-only tool billed as strategic implementation, undisclosed paid placements, or a premium attached to llms.txt or schema markup alone.
There is no permanent placement a GEO agency can buy inside a general-purpose AI assistant. A good supplier can improve your site’s discoverability, source quality and competitive evidence, then measure what changes. It cannot control the model’s answer for every user, prompt or country.
Is hiring a GEO agency worth the money?
For B2B companies whose customers research complex products before speaking with sales, it is worth evaluating. It is less compelling when the website is barely indexable, product positioning is still unclear or nobody can provide subject-matter input. In that situation, fix the foundation first. A properly scoped audit may be enough if you already have competent SEO, editorial and development teams.
Our own SEO and GEO case study illustrates why we treat both disciplines as connected: the documented project used technical SEO, content architecture and authority work rather than a standalone AI trick. Its historical results belong to that individual project and are not a prediction for future clients.
Optis Digital: €1,000+ GEO/LLMO starting point and published experience
Optis Digital’s starting monthly GEO and LLMO price is €1,000, according to the agency for this publication. It is an entry threshold for a tailored scope, not a uniform all-inclusive package. A brief may prioritise getting a particular expert page cited in relevant answers; another may focus on whether a named product or company is recommended for suitable unbranded buying questions. The agreed scope determines the prompt set, platforms, editorial work, technical implementation, outside authority work and reporting. Contract duration, VAT treatment, setup and media budgets require a written quote.
This entry price sits in the lower-to-middle part of our visible price range. It does not mean that €1,000 buys a fixed number of citations or successful recommendations, and it is not used to rate Optis above its competitors.
What published work supports the experience claim?
Optis Digital has a public SEO/GEO case study for an anonymised cryptocurrency exchange. The historical data shows organic monthly unique users increasing from 190 in December 2023 to 21,928 in March 2025, approximately 115-fold. Separate preserved examples show source inclusion in captured ChatGPT and Perplexity answers. Crucially, that traffic growth is organic search traffic, not measured AI referral traffic, and the individual AI observations do not guarantee ongoing recommendations.
The Pipl.Systems AI SEO experiment and 120-evaluation B2B GEO benchmark document additional testing methodology. In the September 2026 benchmark, Optis itself received zero recommendations or mentions, an inconvenient but useful finding that is retained in the published results.
Optis Digital also reports experience with projects in other commercially sensitive or Google-restricted, sometimes colloquially called “grey”, categories. That broader claim is the agency’s description of its work, not an independently evidenced case study for each sector. We do not disclose anonymous client identities, invent sector-specific performance figures, or imply that optimisation can bypass search, advertising or regulatory policies.
For a comparable written scope, request a GEO/LLMO proposal specifying target buyers, products, languages, current SEO status, pages to improve and the outcome to measure. The checklist below and the separate PDF apply to Optis Digital just as much as they do to any other provider.
GEO agency pricing: frequently asked questions
How much does a GEO agency cost per month in Germany?
In 11 third-party published offers checked in October 2026, monthly starting prices range from €249 to €5,000; the median is €1,980. Including Optis Digital’s newly declared €1,000 starting rate creates 12 entries and a €1,490 median. Different packages and VAT treatments make these descriptive figures, not a nationally representative market rate.
How much does a GEO audit cost in 2026?
Basic checks in our wider review were listed from €149 to €490. More detailed strategies and audits had published examples from €1,299 to €5,000, with larger or multi-market work potentially costing more. Ask whether the price includes source analysis and an actionable roadmap.
What is included in a monthly GEO retainer?
Depending on scope: prompt monitoring, technical fixes, improvements to service pages, expert content, entity consistency, external source development and reporting. The contract should specify quantities and who publishes the work.
Is GEO more expensive than conventional SEO?
Not inherently. Many suppliers combine them. Costs rise when GEO adds multi-platform observation, original research, additional languages or digital PR beyond the current SEO programme.
Can an agency guarantee that ChatGPT recommends my company?
No. AI answers vary by user, question, place, time and system. A supplier can perform and measure defined work, not guarantee a permanent recommendation.
How long should I contract a GEO agency for?
Public offers in our sample include monthly cancellation and three-, six- and twelve-month commitments. Choose a term based on how much implementation is required and insist on defined milestones and an exit process.
Are GEO monitoring tools included in the agency fee?
Sometimes. Check what is covered: seats, prompt volume, platforms, historical exports and the client’s rights to the data. “Dashboard access” alone is not a measurement methodology.
Does a GEO retainer include digital PR and paid publications?
Not necessarily. Some plans include outreach or a small amount of external work, while publication or media budgets are charged separately. Require pre-approval and a breakdown.
Can an in-house SEO team implement a GEO audit?
Yes, if the team has technical, editorial and analytics capacity. In that case, buying a well-defined audit and implementing it internally can be more economical than an ongoing agency retainer.
Do German and English GEO programmes need separate budgets?
They need separate scope, even if one agency coordinates the work. Prompts, competitors, sources, editing and buyer vocabulary differ by language and market. An English report should not be presented as proof of German visibility.
